Projects
Founded in 1989, Fresh Start is a 40 week program that provides individualized vocational training and educational opportunities to out-of-school and high-risk males ages 16-19.
Placing an emphasis on job readiness and academic development, Fresh Start helps youth to develop healthy self-esteem through leadership opportunities, team-building, and cultural enrichment activities. Most of our students are referred by the Maryland State Department of Juvenile Services and are truly looking for a fresh start. Throughout the program, students are challenged with hands-on carpentry training and real-world work experience, with 100% of our students employed upon graduation.

Fresh Start is an award-winning program nationally recognized by The U.S. Department of Labor since 1996 for the best practices in youth development. One of our best practices is the student-run business. The products featured in this catalog are hand-crafted by students and all proceeds are deposited into the student account. Fresh Start students receive their share of the profits upon graduation. When you buy this durable furniture made of Western Red Cedar, you are helping a young person turn their life around.
